Lifesharing programs provide families and individuals with IDD the opportunity to mutually enrich one another’s lives. This program provides a supportive family environment for individuals with IDD that fosters their personal growth, development, and independence.
Lifesharing programs are available for those who would like to care for an existing family member with IDD, or open their home to someone in need of support. By living together and sharing life experiences, this program promotes individual growth and cultivates supportive relationships.
Lifesharing also provides benefits for the host family, most often giving them a sense of purpose and fulfillment in making a positive impact on someone’s life. Additionally, they will receive ongoing support and training, as well as a stipend for their services.
There are a number of meaningful benefits to Lifesharing. Here are just a few that our program participants have shared with us:
Lifesharing creates more than a place to live—it creates connection, companionship, and a genuine sense of family and belonging.
Lifesharing provides opportunities to build confidence, develop life skills, and increase independence while celebrating progress and milestones along the way.
Lifesharing encourages individuals with IDD to participate in community life, explore activities and events, build relationships, and develop a broader network of support.
