Partnering for Impact: Advocating for Mental Health and IDD Services Across Pennsylvania

This past May, Community Services Group (CSG) proudly welcomed several local and state legislators to visit with our staff and see our programs firsthand. These visits offered an important opportunity to highlight the critical role our mental health and intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) services play in the lives of individuals, families, and communities throughout 19 counties in Pennsylvania.

In total, 29 state Senators, Representatives, and staff members accepted our invitations to tour their local CSG offices. From Harrisburg to Lancaster, Lehigh Valley to Pottsville, and Sunbury, our teams opened their doors to share the real stories and measurable outcomes from the work we do.

We guided lawmakers through program areas, introduced them to the dedicated staff who deliver compassionate care every day, and highlighted how our services support not just individuals, but entire communities. Conversations centered around the importance of sustained, meaningful financial support, especially as federal and Medicaid funding uncertainties remain.

These visits underscore how powerful advocacy can be when rooted in partnership. By engaging directly with legislators, we help ensure they understand both the value and the urgency of protecting essential services. Whether it’s helping someone manage a mental health diagnosis or supporting a person with IDD to live more independently, the care we provide depends on a stable system—and a shared commitment to making it accessible.

We were proud to share a snapshot of the impact we made in Fiscal Year 2023-2024, including the number of individuals we served and how we assisted in-need populations.

We’re incredibly thankful for the time these lawmakers took to learn more about our work, and to every CSG staff member and advocate who made these visits a success.

Your efforts are helping shape a better, more inclusive future.
