Each year in March, providers from across Pennsylvania gather in Harrisburg for the Rehabilitation and Community Providers Association (RCPA) Capitol Day to meet with legislators, share experiences, and advocate for the people and communities we serve. This year’s Capitol Day once again highlighted how important it is for human service organizations to have a voice in policy and funding conversations that directly impact services, employees, and individuals receiving care.
Leaders and representatives from CSG program teams joined other organizations in the health and human services community throughout the morning. Their conversations focused on several key issues facing providers, including workforce challenges, funding and reimbursement rates, regulatory requirements, and the growing need for mental health and intellectual and developmental disability services across Pennsylvania.
Events like Capitol Day are so important because they give legislators the opportunity to hear directly from the organizations providing services in their communities. While policy decisions are often discussed in broad terms, providers are able to share real examples of how funding, regulations, and workforce shortages impact services and the people who rely on them every day.
Advocacy is an important part of who we are, and ensuring that services remain available, accessible, and high quality. It also helps policymakers understand that investments in human services are investments in communities, families, and the workforce that supports them.
CSG is proud to participate in Capitol Day each year and is grateful to RCPA for organizing the event and continuing to advocate on behalf of providers across the Commonwealth.
